SAM & DEREK: Understanding God’s great promises
When Voice of Care representatives visited the Walter Lawson Home in Loves Park, Illinois, a lesson about Noah’s Ark was planned for Bible time. Two of the facility’s teenagers used adaptive switch devices to communicate.
One of the devotion leaders recorded the narration for the story onto Sam and Derek’s switch units in advance, in order to enable these boys to more fully participate. Joli, a spiritual care volunteer, helped Sam and Derek to “read out loud” by activating the recordings. The other children used animal puppets to act out the story of how God saved Noah, his family and the animals, when the sinful earth was destroyed by flood. Being actively involved in the storytelling helped Sam, Derek and the rest of the children to remember the Bible lesson and understand God’s great promises to them. |
