Your congregation is only at its best when everybody is included, belongs, and contributes
Ministry Opportunity
Voice of Care's mission speaks of equipping the local congregation to “embrace, empower, and engage” - bringing about assimilation into all aspects of the congregation. Certainly, this is a goal for all churches, yet it often requires a deliberate effort of intentionality when including people who experience disabilities. Because these families and individuals are often overlooked, dismissed, and marginalized by society, they frequently come to expect the same in the local church. Voice of Care Impact – Creating a Culture of Belonging
Congregational Assimilation calls congregations to recognize that all people, regardless of ability, are valued by God the Father and that people who have disabilities are as much a part of the “Body of Christ” as any Christian. Each person has needs to be met, but also has gifts to share. Congregational Assimilation brings about a cradle-to-grave ministry for people, regardless of ability. Disabilities may be found at any life stage, from infant to young child, adolescent to young adult, mature adult to older adult. Congregational Assimilation focuses on building relationships within the Body of Christ, worshiping together, valuing each member, and opening doors of inclusiveness and a sense of belonging. The Apostle Paul urges in Romans 14:13 that we, “decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.” Being intentional and inclusive in our practices removes the stumbling blocks that we may not even realize are there. |
