Executive Director Kris Blackwell
Deaconess Kris Blackwell has served as Voice of Care’s Executive Director since October 2013 and is a Master Trainer for REST (Respite Education and Support Tools) Program. Prior to that she held the title of Director of Development, a post she assumed in 2011. Kris hails from upstate New York, where she volunteered with Alpha Lutheran Church of the Deaf. It was there that she learned to finger spell and was inspired to pursue full time church work serving people with disabilities. She attended Concordia College in Bronxville (New York), Valparaiso University (Indiana) and Concordia University Chicago in River Forest (Illinois). Kris completed Deaconess training and received a BA in Theology. Additionally, Kris engages in active leadership with LWML (Lutheran Women in Mission), has been a substitute teacher for more than 15 years with the School Association for Special Education in DuPage County, volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America fundraising program, and is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisle, Illinois. She and Mike, her husband of over 30 years, together raised son Jonathan and daughter Jennifer.
